Olympic champion Valery Kamensky commented on Alexander Ovechkin's chances of breaking Canadian Wayne Gretzky's record for goals, including playoffs, in the National Hockey League (NHL).
"We should wish him to break this record, cheer for him, and celebrate his victories. I believe that Sasha can realistically break all records and become the sole record holder. Good luck to him, we are following him," said Kamensky.
The 40-year-old Russian has reached a total of 998 goals in his career in North America, including playoff games. This is the second highest total in NHL history. The record belongs to Canadian Wayne Gretzky (1016). Now they are separated by 18 goals.
In 62 regular season games, Alexander now has 50 points (24+26). He is the league's top scorer in regular season play.
