Iran's national team may refuse to participate in the World Cup due to U.S. aggression towards the Middle Eastern country.

Marca reports this.

On the morning of February 28, Israel launched a "preventive strike" against Iran, and a few hours later, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the start of a major military operation. Iran responded with missile strikes against Israel and U.S. bases in the region.

The Iranian national team qualified for the 2026 World Cup and was placed in Group G, where its opponents are Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand. All three matches are set to take place in the United States.

The 2026 World Cup will be held next summer across three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The reigning world champion is the Argentine national team.
