Biathlete Lozbers won a gold medal at the Junior World Championships

Latvian athlete Rihards Lozbers won a gold medal in the individual 12.5 km race at the Junior World Biathlon Championships held in Germany on Saturday.

Competing in the under-19 age group, 16-year-old Lozbers missed three shots in the prone position, receiving a penalty of 2 minutes and 15 seconds, but made no mistakes in the standing shooting.

Nevertheless, the Latvian biathlete was the fastest on the course, outpacing his nearest rivals by almost 2 minutes, so the mistakes at the shooting ranges did not prevent him from winning the gold medal in a field of 117 athletes. Lozbers' final time, including the penalty, was 38 minutes and 21.2 seconds.

The silver medal was won by Ukrainian Taras Tarasyuk, while Bulgarian Georgi Djorgov took third place.
