The flag bearers for the Latvian team at the closing ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics will be short tracker Robert Kruzbergs and skier Patricia Eiduka.
Robert Kruzbergs won a bronze medal in short track at the 1500 meters, securing the first Olympic medal in the history of Latvia in this sport.
In turn, Patricia Eiduka achieved the best result in the history of Latvian cross-country skiing, finishing 11th in the 50 km classical race and 15th in the 10 km freestyle race with a separate start.
At these Winter Olympics, Latvia was represented by the largest delegation in the country's history — 68 athletes competing in 9 sports and 28 disciplines.
At the Winter Olympics in Milan, Latvian athletes won two Olympic medals.
Summarizing the Olympic Performance
There was a very strong performance in luge — Elina Ieva Bota secured 2nd place, while in the men's competition, Kristers Aparjods finished 4th. In the doubles event, Bogdanova/Robežniece placed fourth, and Bots/Plume came in fifth. Also, in the team relay, the Latvian quartet finished fourth, just slightly missing out on the podium.
Outstanding success was achieved in short track — Robert Kruzbergs took 3rd place in the 1500 meters, securing Latvia's Olympic bronze. Additionally, he finished a high 5th place in the 1000 meters.
In cross-country skiing, Patricia Eiduka achieved a historically high result, finishing 11th in the 50 km classical race and 15th in the 10 km freestyle among 111 female athletes, as well as finishing 13th in the team sprint final alongside Kitija Auzina.
In biathlon, the best result was shown by Estere Volfa, who finished 11th in the 10 km pursuit and 16th in the 7.5 km sprint. Baiba Bendika placed 15th in the sprint.
Hockey and alpine skiing were not mentioned in the press release from the Latvian Olympic Committee. The press release concludes with a general statement: "Overall, Latvian athletes demonstrated stable performances, achieving historically significant results in various winter sports."
