Latvia Wins Second Olympic Medal – Again on Ice

Latvian athlete Roberts Kruzbergs won a bronze medal in the Olympic Games in Milan on Saturday in the short track competition at the distance of 1500 meters.

In the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina, this award became Latvia's second. Previously, Elina Ieva Bota won a silver medal in the women's singles luge event.

Kruzbergs suffered a muscle tear in his leg and is competing injured. Before this, he finished second in the quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals after the judges decided that an opponent knocked him down.

This is Latvia's first medal in Olympic short track competitions.

In the 1000-meter distance, Kruzbergs finished in fifth place – this was the highest result for Latvia in the history of Olympic short track.

The Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina will last until February 22.
