The organizing committee of the Olympic Games, taking place in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, has paid special attention to reports of defects in the medals received by athletes. This was stated in a conversation with journalists by the chief operating officer of the organizing committee, Andrea Franchizi.
The reaction was prompted by athletes' posts on social media. They pointed out issues with the quality of the awards — in particular, that the ribbons on the medals were coming off.
Franchizi added that the organizing committee intends to pay increased attention to the situation with the medals to ensure that the award presentation process is of the appropriate standard. According to him, this episode of the competition is one of the most significant for both the athletes and the Games themselves.
