Latvian lugers finished second in the team relay at the fourth stage of the World Cup in Sigulda on Sunday.
The Latvian team included Elina Ieva Bota, Eduards Shevits-Mikelshevits/Lucass Krasts, Kristers Aparyods, and Marta Robežniece/Kitiya Bogdanova.
The victory was claimed by the Austrian lugers, who completed the distance in three minutes and 1.215 seconds. The Latvian quartet finished 0.295 seconds behind the Austrians, while the Americans trailed by 0.428 seconds, securing third place.
Poland and Ukraine took fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Out of eight teams, only five reached the finish line — the teams from China and Germany did not finish, and the Italian team was disqualified.
In the team relay this season among eight teams, Latvia had previously only secured third and fourth places.
The fifth stage of the World Cup in January will take place in Winterberg, where the Olympic qualification will conclude, and medals for the European Championship will be contested at the first of two stages on another German track in Oberhof. In early February, athletes will continue their competition at the Olympic Games in Milan — Cortina d'Ampezzo.
