Latvian tennis player Darya Semenistaya reached the final of the WTA 250 qualifying tournament in Auckland on Saturday, while Anastasija Sevastova failed to advance past the first round of qualifying, LETA reports.
Semenistaya, ranked 101st in the WTA rankings and seeded first in the qualifying round, defeated Canadian Cadence Brace (WTA 187) in the first round of qualifying with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
In turn, Sevastova (WTA 188) lost to Austrian Sinja Kraus (WTA 110), seeded third in the qualifying round, with a score of 4-6, 7-6 (9:7), 3-6.
For reaching the second round of qualifying, Semenistaya earned 12 WTA ranking points, which allowed her to return to the top 100 in the online rankings. Sevastova finished the tournament with one WTA point.
The tournament in New Zealand is being held on hard courts.
