Heart problems were accidentally discovered in the player during an examination conducted due to a small thrombus in his leg. The operation, which was supposed to last 40 minutes, extended to nearly three hours due to complications that arose.
Roberto Carlos's life is not in danger, but he will remain in the hospital under medical supervision for preventive purposes for at least 48 hours.
The 52-year-old former footballer played for Real Madrid, Brazilian teams União São João, Atlético Mineiro, Palmeiras, and Corinthians, Italian Inter, Turkish Fenerbahçe, Indian Delhi Dynamos, and also for Makhachkala's Anzhi. As part of Real Madrid, the Brazilian won the Champions League three times.
