Latvia U-20 Youth National Team to Play Against Denmark in Third Match of World Championship

Today, the Latvia men's U-20 ice hockey team will play its third match at the junior world championship, facing their peers from Denmark.

The Group B match will start at 23:30 Latvian time. The live broadcast will be available on the "Go3 Sport" platform and the TV6 channel.

In the first match, the Latvian hockey players lost to Canada with a score of 1:2 in overtime, and in the second, they suffered a defeat against Finland — 0:8.

Meanwhile, the Danes lost to the Finns 2:6, to the Czechs 2:7, and suffered a crushing defeat against the Canadian team with a score of 1:9.

In Group B, the Canadians are in first place with eight points after three games. Finland is in second place (7 points), and the Czech Republic occupies the third position (5 points). Latvia has one point after two matches, while the Danes remain without points after three games.

In the final game of the group stage, the Latvian hockey players will face the Czech Republic — the match will take place on Wednesday.

In the second group, Sweden, the USA, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Germany are competing.

The top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, while the teams finishing in fifth place will play a match for the right to remain in the top division.

As part of the preparation for the tournament, the Latvian youth team played two friendly matches in Minnesota — losing to the Czech Republic (2:3) and Slovakia (1:3).

The Latvia U-20 team has been competing in the elite division for the fifth consecutive year. In three of the last four tournaments, the Latvians reached the quarterfinals, and in one (in 2023), they fought to maintain their place in the elite. In the previous World Championship, the Latvian team lost in the quarterfinals to the Swedish team — 2:3.
