The world’s number one from Belarus and four-time Grand Slam champion Arina Sobolenko has been named Player of the Year in the annual WTA Player Awards.
This is her second consecutive victory in this nomination.
Sobolenko's competitors for the title of best tennis player of 2025 were:
Iga Swiatek (Poland);
Amanda Anisimova (USA);
Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan);
Coco Gauff (USA);
Madison Keys (USA).
Winners in the nominations were traditionally chosen by representatives of international tennis media.
In the current season, Sobolenko won the US Open, the Masters in Miami and Madrid, as well as the 500 event in Brisbane. She set a record for the amount of prize money earned in a single year of competition — $15,008,519.
At the WTA Finals, Sobolenko reached the final undefeated, but in the decisive match, she lost to Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan with a score of 3:6, 6:7 (0:7).
