Latvia's top player Alena Ostapenko has maintained her 23rd position in the updated Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles ranking, while Daria Semenistaya has dropped three positions to 100th place, reports LETA.
The WTA season has ended, but several "WTA 125" series tournaments and the most prestigious ITF competitions will take place before the end of the year, which may lead to minor changes in the top 100 rankings. Ostapenko's position is not in danger; however, Semenistaya's closest pursuers will compete in tournaments this week and may surpass her.
Among other Latvian tennis players, Anastasija Sevastova has risen two positions (202nd), Kamilla Bartone has regained four places (565th), Adelina Lachinova has lost eight positions (636th), Beatrice Zeltiņa has climbed three spots (642nd), Diana Marcinkevica has improved her position by 12 places (789th), Elza Tomase has dropped four positions (935th), and Sabine Rutlauka has risen 168 places (1084th).
There have been no changes in the top ten of the WTA rankings. Leading is Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, followed by Polish Iga Swiatek, then Americans Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova, Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina, followed by two more Americans — Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys. Eighth place is held by Italian Jasmine Paolini, and the top ten is rounded out by Russians Mira Andreyeva and Ekaterina Alexandrova.
In the WTA doubles rankings, Ostapenko finished the season in seventh place. Daria Semenistaya has dropped two spots (155th), Sevastova — four (509th), Bartone — eight (563rd), Tomase — also eight (592nd), and Marcinkevica has risen one position (658th). There are also eight more Latvian tennis players in the doubles rankings, each below the 900th position.
The top spot in the doubles rankings at the end of the season was taken by Czech player Katerina Siniakova.
