The winger of the Saudi club Al-Nassr, Sadio Mane, who previously played for Liverpool, spoke about his relationship with forward Mohamed Salah, with whom he played for the Merseysiders.
"Everyone thought there was some rivalry between us, but that's not really the case. I'm a quiet person, friendly towards the whole team. I think Mo is a good guy too. But it seems to me that on the field [it's different]: everyone saw — sometimes he could pass to me, and sometimes he wouldn’t. Only Bobby [Firmino] always shared the ball.
I still remember the game against Burnley [in 2019], I was really angry then because Mo didn’t pass to me in those moments when he should have. After the match, I was furious. The next day he wanted to talk to me but didn’t know how to do it. He thought I was still mad at him since we all went home right after that game and didn’t cross paths.
He asked, "Can we talk?" I replied, "Yes, no problem, let’s do it." He said, "Did you think I didn’t want to pass you the ball? I didn’t score, but Bobby did. When I got the ball, I didn’t see you, I just wanted to shoot. I have nothing against you. I swear, if I have the chance to pass to you, I will."
I replied, "Don’t worry, that’s in the past. I was angry because with your quality of play, you could have passed to me more often." I think from that moment we became closer with Mo. Sometimes it happens like that; I didn’t see it as something personal. He just wants to score and score. After that, I told him, "Mo, I can help you, since you want to be the top scorer so much, I have no problem with that. You can count on me," Mane told Goal.com.
