Latvian tennis player Anastasia Sevastova has been nominated for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) award in the category of 'Comeback of the Year', the organization reports, writes LETA.
35-year-old Sevastova returned to the court this season after more than a year-long break due to health issues and maternity leave, rising to 209th place in the WTA rankings.
The experienced Latvian athlete, who has won four WTA tournaments in her career and reached 11th place in the world rankings, has won ten out of 22 tour matches this season. Among her victories, she managed to defeat Latvia's top player Alena Ostapenko (WTA 23) and, at that time, the world’s fourth-ranked player, American Jessica Pegula (WTA 6).
