The Latvian men's hockey team needs to learn to play throughout the entire match, said the head coach of the Latvian national team Harijs Vitolins, LETA reports.
As previously reported, on Saturday, the Latvian hockey players lost to Slovakia 1:4 in the second match of the friendly tournament "Germany Cup."
"We need to learn to play all 60 minutes. There were bursts when the game was going quite well. Then we again couldn't take control of the puck. We need to believe in our abilities, and at the moment when our strength runs out, we need to show character. The Latvian national team is always characterized by our ability to show character. At times it was visible, but at times we lost it," admitted Vitolins.
The coach of the Latvian national team emphasized that it was already known before the match that the opponents' leaders in attack would act very actively.
"In all these teams, the best players have good statistics, and they play active hockey. We also want to play active hockey. It all depends on how confident you are in yourself, how much you can do. All actions must be confident," he added.
On Thursday, the Latvians lost to the German national team 1:4 in the first match, while Slovakia defeated Austria 6:2.
On Sunday at 12:00, the Latvian national team will conclude the tournament with a match against Austria.
