Latvian national hockey team candidate Mik Tumans has signed a contract with the Finnish club Jokerit, which competes in the country's second-tier league, Mestis, while defenseman and also candidate for the Latvian national team Niks Fenenko will no longer play for this team, the club announced on Tuesday, LETA reports.

As previously reported, in mid-October, Tumans mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the Slovak Extraliga club Prešov.

"Jokerit strengthens its defense with Latvian Tumans, who joins the team for the remainder of the season," the club's statement said.

Before joining Prešov, the 24-year-old defenseman spent the previous four seasons in Finland. He played the first two years for the Mestis league club Rovaniemi RoKi, and the next two in the top league for JYP Jyväskylä, which also loaned him to several Mestis teams and the top league club Jukurit from Mikkeli.

"Tumans is a tall and versatile defenseman with good skating. He has offensive potential, and besides that, we expect him to play reliably on defense," noted Jokerit's sports director Olli-Pekka Irrihenheiki.

Tumans joined Jokerit on Tuesday, and he is expected to take the ice in Friday's match against Hermes from Kokkola.

At the same time, Jokerit announced that, by mutual agreement, they have terminated the contract with defenseman Fenenko.

This season, Fenenko played two games for Jokerit and did not score any points.

Jokerit, with 19 points earned in 13 games, is in seventh place among 10 teams in the Mestis league.

It is noted that next week Fenenko will join the Latvian national team.

This year, Tumans was part of the Latvian national team at the World Championship but did not play any matches.
