Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and provided an assist against St. Louis (6:3) and etched his name in the history of the club and the National Hockey League.
Thanks to his points in today’s game, Malkin extended his scoring streak to seven games — the longest streak among players over 39 years old in Pittsburgh's history.
Since the 2012/13 season, only three NHL players have achieved such a result at this age or older: Joe Pavelski (9 consecutive games in the 2023/24 season with Dallas, 39 years old), Joe Thornton (7 games in the 2020/21 season with Toronto, 41 years old), and Jaromir Jagr (7 games in the 2013/14 season with New Jersey, 41 years old).
After the game against St. Louis, Malkin has 16 points (3+13) in the current NHL season. This is the second-best result in league history for points scored in the first 10 games of the season among players aged 39 and older. It is also the best result in the current century.
In the all-time list, only Gordie Howe is ahead, having scored 17 points (6+11) in the 1968/69 season at the age of 40.
