Latvian chess champion Maria Kuznetsova won a silver medal at the World Youth Championship in the girls' under-16 group, which took place in Albania, reports the Latvian Chess Federation, according to LETA.
The 15-year-old athlete achieved eight victories in 11 games, drew one, and with 8.5 points, took second place among 113 participants. The victory went to Dinara Hafizova, who competed under the FIDE flag.
In total, Latvia was represented by eight young chess players at the World Youth Championship.
In other groups, Agnesa Stepaniya Ter-Avetisyan took 14th place, Milana Gailevskaya — 19th, Nikolai Platonov — 23rd, Sofia Vasilieva — 27th, Reinis Valdats — 44th, and Alexey Adamovich finished in 92nd position.
