The Latvian national football team hopelessly lost to the England national team on Tuesday in a match of the qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup in Riga.
The final score is 0:5 in favor of the guests. Captain Harry Kane scored two goals (one from a penalty). In addition to him, Anthony Gordon and Eberechi Eze also found the net.
The Latvian players did not leave the field without a goal either – the fourth in the long list of goals belongs to Maksims Toniševs, who scored an own goal.
To be fair, at times the Latvian players looked quite good. There were bright saves from Zviēdris, dangerous shots from Gutkovskis, and selfless play in defense. It’s just a pity that there were too few moments to avoid conceding and to score.
Overall, the result of the match is justified, considering that the Latvian national team currently ranks 137th in the world rankings, while England is fourth.
