Three Consecutive Victories: The Faroe Islands Could Really Qualify for the 2026 World Cup

The modest national football team of the Faroe Islands has set a historic achievement in the qualifying matches by winning three consecutive victories for the first time.

On October 12, during the qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup, the Faroe Islands defeated the Czech Republic 2:1. Previously, this team won against Montenegro (4:0) and Gibraltar (1:0).

After the victory over the Czechs, the Scandinavians have a chance to continue their fight for a spot in the World Cup. The Croatian national team has almost guaranteed itself first place in Group L, while the second place, which grants the right to participate in the playoffs, will be contested by the Czech Republic (13 points) and the Faroe Islands (12).

Group L: Croatia — 16 points (6 matches), Czech Republic — 13 (7), Faroe Islands — 12 (7), Montenegro — 6 (6), Gibraltar — 0 (6).

A total of 16 teams from Europe will qualify for the World Cup. Of these, 12 direct spots will be awarded to the winners of the qualifying groups, while another four spots will be contested in playoff matches involving 12 second-placed teams and four teams that qualified through the UEFA Nations League.

The matches of the final stage of the 2026 World Cup will take place in 16 cities across Canada, Mexico, and the USA in the summer of next year.
