The Estonia national football team lost to Italy in the World Cup qualifying match with a score of 1:3

The Estonia men's national football team suffered a defeat against Italy with a score of 1:3 (0:2) in the second match of the World Cup 2026 qualifying tournament, which took place late Saturday evening at the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn.

Goals for Italy were scored by Moise Kean (5th minute), Mateo Retegui (38th), and Francesco Pio Esposito (74th). The only goal for the Estonia national team was scored by Rauno Sappinen in the 76th minute, hitting the net against Gianluigi Donnarumma.

In the first half, Estonia's goalkeeper Karl Jakob Hein also saved a penalty taken by Retegui.

This was the ninth meeting between the national teams of Estonia and Italy, and the Italians have won all the matches. Prior to this, the Estonian team had managed to score only twice: in 1995 in Salerno and in 2010 in Tallinn, reports the sports portal Postimees.
