Kirill Kaprizov's new contract with the Minnesota Wild has become record-breaking in the NHL for player salary and total amount.
The Russian forward signed a new eight-year deal worth $136 million with a cap hit of $17 million.
The previous record cap hit for a contract belonged to Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl, who signed an eight-year deal with Edmonton in September 2024 for a total of $112 million with a cap hit of $14 million.
The previous record for total contract amount was held by Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin. The Russian forward signed a 13-year contract in 2008 for a total of $124 million.
