After the reformation of the ruling coalition, the government of Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene (in the photo) has completed its work.

Today, the last meeting of the 20th cabinet of ministers took place. The ministers unanimously adopted the last resolution on the resignation of the government.

“Despite all the difficulties, we have much to be proud of, and each of you has made a significant contribution to the well-being of our state and the improvement of people's lives. Therefore, today we make the decision to resign and submit the government's powers to the president of the republic,” said Ruginiene.

She noted that this is not an easy day, which at the same time allows for a summary of the year's work. The outgoing prime minister stated that she is proud of her team.

The resolution on the resignation will be handed over to President Gitanas Nauseda, who will instruct Ruginiene's cabinet to carry out its duties until the formation of the 21st government.

The head of state must present a candidate for the new prime minister to the Seimas for consideration within 15 days. According to the agreement of the new ruling coalition, the leader of the Social Democrats, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, will be nominated for this position.

The new ruling majority was formed after the Social Democrats terminated the agreement with the 'Dawn of Nyamunas' party.

Last week, the coalition agreement was signed by the leaders of the factions of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the Democratic Union 'For Lithuania', and the Lithuanian Union of Peasants, Greens, and Christian Families. This coalition has 75 votes in the Seimas.

It is planned that Ruginiene will return to work at the Ministry of Social Security and Labour. Possible candidates for ministers have not yet been disclosed, citing the need to coordinate names with President Gitanas Nauseda.
