It is also important to reduce legal migration, as the influx of students from third countries to Latvia, as well as the scale of labor attraction by individual enterprises, is becoming excessive and is already creating problems for the state as a whole.

This opinion was expressed in the TV24 program "Dienas personība" by the deputy of the Riga City Council and parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Climate and Energy, Einars Cilinskis.

He emphasized that this is the first task that needs to be addressed in migration policy.

The import of labor from third countries in the long term can create both economic and social problems, a viewpoint previously expressed in the TV24 program "Globuss" by the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia, Edvins Šnore.

He stressed that the practice of some universities and entrepreneurs attracting foreign "students" who then become cheap labor must come to an end.

"They will have to stop such a business, it is obvious," noted Šnore.

He added that this issue should be considered comprehensively, not just through the lens of the interests of individual entrepreneurs.

"Businessmen who make money are certainly interested in the possibility of paying lower wages. Putting a person from Uzbekistan to work at a fish processing plant and paying them the minimum, resulting in Latvians having to leave to find work elsewhere, is just an individual business plan," he stated.
