Russia increasingly views the Baltic Sea region as a conflict zone, stated German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Friday at the Kiel Conference on Security.
These days, politicians, military officials, and experts have gathered in Kiel to discuss the changing situation in the Baltic Sea region.
"We have all come to the realization that the Baltic Sea is of vital importance for the defense of the entire NATO alliance," said the minister, opening the conference. He noted that the Baltic Sea serves as a strategic route for the transportation of reinforcements and supplies, and Russia is well aware of this.
"We have observed cases of sabotage, espionage, GPS jamming, incursions of drones and fighter jets into NATO airspace, movements of the Russian shadow fleet, as well as the repeated presence of Russian research vessels near critical infrastructure," noted the German Foreign Minister.
