The ultimate goal of introducing education only in Latvian, or a unified school, is a unified society, said Riga's Deputy Mayor Vilnis Kirssis ("New Unity") today, opening the forum "Unified School - Quality of Education, Cooperation, and Productivity" at the University of Latvia.
According to the politician, since the restoration of state independence, society has been divided and has lived in several communities. To unite society, it is necessary to work with the youth and the youngest part of society. The creation of a unified school is one of the prerequisites for uniting society, Kirssis stated, emphasizing that language is merely a means to achieve this goal.
In his opinion, it is important to discuss not only that one must be proficient in the language upon finishing school, but also that members of society must be integrated, and bridges must be built between the once-separated communities.
