On Thursday, the Saeima approved a new government, which will be headed by Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (AS).
Accordingly, the powers of the government of the resigned Prime Minister Evika Silina ("New Unity") have ended. The State Chancellery explained to the LETA agency that this occurred at the moment the Saeima approved the new cabinet of ministers.
The new coalition was formed by the "United List" (AS), the National Alliance (NA), "New Unity" (JV), and the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS).
The AS is responsible for the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Smart Governance and Regional Development. Maris Kucinskis has been appointed as Minister of Finance, Edwards Smiltenis as Minister of Justice, and Edgars Tavars as Minister of Smart Governance and Regional Development.
From "New Unity," the Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Broka and the Minister of Health Hosam Abu Meri retained their positions. Raivis Melnis has been appointed as Minister of Defense, and the former head of the Ministry of Interior, Rihards Kozlovskis, has been appointed as Minister of Transport.
The National Alliance has taken over the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of the Interior, as well as the Ministry of Climate and Energy. Ilze Indrikson has become the Minister of Education and Science, Janis Dombrava the Minister of the Interior, Nauris Puntulis the Minister of Culture, and Janis Vitenbergs the Minister of Climate and Energy.
From ZZS, the Minister of Economy Viktors Valainis and the Minister of Welfare Reinis Uzulnieks retained their positions, while Uldis Augulis has been appointed as Minister of Agriculture.
The Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mierina (ZZS), also retained her position.
The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, tasked Kulbergs with forming a new government after the resignation of the previous Prime Minister Evika Silina.
