An extraordinary plenary session is taking place in the Saeima to approve Kulbergs' government.
Thus, the parliament has begun discussing the issue of expressing confidence in the new government led by Andris Kulbergs. However, there will be no quick vote on the approval of the government - 14 deputies, including the Speaker of the Saeima and the Prime Minister candidate himself, have signed up to participate in the debates! Andris Kulbergs, speaking at this moment before the deputies, noted that he and his partners in the future government managed to overcome the political crisis that arose following the resignation of the Siliņš government in just two weeks. "In 10 days, we formed a government that is ready to start working immediately. This is what the people of Latvia demand from us - to make quick, effective decisions; the situation is such that we cannot drag our feet, we must act!" said Andris Kulbergs.
The Prime Minister candidate, having "forgotten" that his government will include "New Unity," began to criticize the work of the previous government, which adopted a budget with the maximum allowable deficit and took on loans. "It is necessary to understand that if we continue to act in the same way, there will only be two options left - either raise taxes or earn more!" warned A. Kulbergs. He reiterated the priorities of the new government outlined in the government declaration signed this morning. These include security in a broad sense (both internal and external), budget stabilization, safe conduct of elections, and the fight against corruption and cartels.
It should be noted that since the restoration of independence, that is, since 1990, there have been 23 governments in Latvia, and thus the Kulbergs government will become the 24th. Andris Kulbergs will be the 16th Prime Minister since the restoration of independence.
