Портфели ждут новых министров

For the first time in the 21st century, the Ministry of the Interior will be headed by a representative of the National Alliance.

As previously reported, the candidate for prime minister, Andris Kulbergs, intends to announce the names of his government only tomorrow afternoon, when he meets with the president once again. However, unofficially, the composition of the future government is already known 95-99 percent.

Thus, the portfolio of the Minister of Finance may go to the former prime minister, Saeima deputy Maris Kucinskis (United List - OS), the post of Minister of Justice is expected to be taken by the secretary of the Saeima presidium, lawyer by education Edvards Smiltena (OS), and the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development may be headed by either Saeima deputy Aiva Viksna or Saeima deputy Juris Vilyums (both - OS).

For the first time this century, the Ministry of the Interior will be headed by a representative of the National Alliance, historian Janis Dombrava, who currently chairs the parliamentary investigative commission on migration.

The candidate for prime minister from the National Alliance, Master of Environmental Management, Saeima deputy Ilze Indikson will lead the Ministry of Education. Her party mate Nauris Puntulis will return to the position of Minister of Culture, while the Ministry of Climate and Energy may be headed by another Saeima deputy from the National Alliance, Janis Vitenbergs.

The Union of Greens and Farmers will retain all the posts it had in the Silin government. Viktor Valainis and Reinis Uzulnieks will remain in the positions of Ministers of Economy and Welfare, respectively, while the portfolio of the Minister of Agriculture will most likely go to the current Minister of Climate and Energy, Kaspars Melnis.

As for the recently most important ruling party, the new government has allocated only 4 portfolios to 'New Unity'. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to be led by Baiba Braže, the portfolio of the Minister of Health will be retained by Hosam Abu Meri, and Arvils Ašeradens may move from the position of Minister of Finance to the position of Minister of Communications. It is still unclear who from 'New Unity' will head the Ministry of Defense - either the non-partisan Colonel Raivis Melnis, who was strongly pushed for this position by Evika Silina, or, for example, the Minister of Justice in the Silina government, Inese Libina-Egnere.
