Employees of former Defense Minister Andris Sprudsa's bureau will receive over €52,000 in severance pay and compensation for unused vacation. Sprudsa himself will not receive a payment as he returns to work in the Saeima.
After the change of leadership at the Ministry of Defense, employees of the bureau of former minister Andris Sprudsa will receive €52,261 before taxes.
This was reported to the LETA agency by the Ministry of Defense.
The specified amount includes both severance pay and compensation for unused vacation. The employer's share of the social tax is also included in the calculation.
The largest individual payment will go to the current parliamentary secretary and Saeima deputy Liene Gatere from the 'Progressives' party. She is set to receive €11,146 as vacation compensation.
Andris Sprudsa himself will not receive a severance payment. After leaving his ministerial post, he intends to return to work in parliament.
It is important to understand that changes in ministers in Latvia usually automatically lead to a renewal of the political bureaus of ministries, as the employees of the bureau hold politically appointed positions rather than being permanent civil servants.
Sprudsa's resignation occurred against the backdrop of a conflict within the coalition and criticism following incidents involving drones in Latgale.
Prime Minister Evika Silina previously stated that the minister had lost her trust. In 'New Unity,' there were also discussions about the accumulated problems in the Ministry of Defense's operations, including high staff turnover.
In turn, the 'Progressives' criticized the prime minister's actions and questioned the further stability of the coalition.
Against this backdrop, the costs associated with the departure of the political leadership of the ministry have once again drawn attention to the cost of personnel reshuffles in the government.
