The expert named one circumstance under which the airline would be able to repay the money borrowed from the state.
The head of the Ministry of Transport, Aitis Shvinkas ("Progressives"), recently expressed hope that airBaltic would begin repaying the loan recently issued by the state as early as June or even at the end of May. Here’s how economist and former vice president of "Latvijas dzelzceļš" Aivars Strakshas commented on this in social media: "Can airBaltic start repaying the loan as early as May? Yes, but only if the state lends more money to replace one debt with another or invests in equity. Otherwise, there is not the slightest chance. Even if there is no energy crisis, airBaltic will not survive until the elections without at least another 60–80 million euros in additional investments. I am keenly and eagerly awaiting further actions from the Minister of Transport and the entire government.
Additional pressure will also arise in the aircraft leasing market. There is not enough aviation fuel, it is expensive, and one of the largest aircraft lessors, airBaltic, "Lufthansa," will reduce the number of flights by 20,000 by October. Other European companies are also planning to fly less. Many aircraft will remain on the ground and will not be in demand. I hope the leasing contracts of airBaltic will not be terminated.
P.S. This deception is based on the assumption that the energy crisis will worsen and drag on, allowing all blame to be shifted onto Trump?" - wrote the economist.
