Being with the USA - Latvia is Ready to Go Underwater in the Gulf of Hormuz for Mine Clearance

Latvia can offer its teams specializing in underwater demining to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stated the national security advisor to Prime Minister Evika Silina, Airis Rikveilis.

He added that Latvia supports international efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. To achieve this goal, Latvia must work together with the USA, said Rikveilis.

"We are considering the possibility of our country's contribution in areas where we have expertise - demining explosive devices, teams specializing in underwater mine clearance," said Rikveilis.

According to him, as soon as the outlines of the international coalition for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz become clearer, Latvia's participation will also become evident.

Although on Friday Iran announced that it was reopening the strait, on Saturday it closed it again after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would maintain the blockade of Iranian ports until a peace agreement is reached.
