The Saeima will discuss the publication of a list of companies trading with Russia and Belarus, as well as the sustainability of the pension system and "revolutionary" changes in public and municipal procurement.

This Thursday, deputies will hold the first plenary session of the spring session of the Saeima after the break. The session will begin with a package of bills from the opposition faction "Latvia First." The prepared amendments to a number of laws aim to prohibit holders of dual citizenship from holding certain positions in government structures. Opposition politicians want to ban holders of dual citizenship from running for the Saeima. Those who are already elected to the Saeima or local governments with two passports will be offered a set period to initiate the procedure for renouncing their second citizenship.

Most likely, these initiatives will be rejected. However, amendments prepared by deputies of "New Unity" to the Law on Support for the Civil Population of Ukraine will certainly be referred to the committee. Although the main goal of the law is to support Ukrainian refugees in Latvia, deputies from the ruling party have proposed amendments that grant the legal right to publish lists of companies that continue to trade with Russia and Belarus, thereby, as the deputies believe, helping Russia to continue its war.

Tomorrow, there will be further meetings of the Saeima committees. Deputies from the budget committee will continue to work on the procurement bill. The focus is on revolutionary amendments to this law, which significantly increase the procurement amount at which a procurement competition must be announced. Many experts warn that the new procedure will create grounds for corruption.

In turn, the Saeima Committee on Long-Term Development will discuss with experts the sustainability of the Latvian pension system.

The issue of medical assistance and state support for patients with type 1 diabetes will be addressed at the social affairs committee meeting.
