All leaders of the national airline, as well as representatives of the business community, were summoned to the meeting.
As previously reported, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa ("New Unity") unexpectedly decided today to convene an extraordinary government meeting. The head of government explained that the reason for the meeting was two letters - from the Chamber of Commerce and from the Exporters' Association. The letter contains a call for the authorities to agree to issue a short-term loan to the airline airBaltic, demanding in return a plan for the company's exit from the crisis and recapitalization.
And now, at this moment, the extraordinary government meeting has begun, which is being held behind closed doors. The agenda includes two questions or rather two informational reports prepared by the Minister of Transport, Aitis Švinka ("Progressives") - "On the Situation in airBaltic" and "On the Impact of the Crisis in the Middle East on the Aviation Industry." The reports are also classified for now. The entire leadership of airBaltic has arrived at the meeting - the chairman of the council, the chairman of the board, and a board member, as well as the head of Riga Airport, representatives of the aviation industry, the Chamber of Commerce, the Investment and Development Agency, the Exporters' Association... Apparently, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Transport will use this meeting as a pressure element on the "green farmers," who, as is known, have blocked the allocation of a short-term loan to airBaltic so far.
