Competition is growing in the political field of Latvian nationalism – the old good National Alliance has been challenged by the schismatics from the new party Austošā Saule Latvijai ("Rising Sun for Latvia").
The political slogan of the "Rising Sun" is for a national, safe, and free Latvia. It is difficult for the average citizen to understand the varieties of local nationalism. Indeed, even a prominent member of the National Alliance, Liana Langa, was confused and published a post from her political competitor – member of the "Rising Sun" Dace Lindberga.
Recently, Lindberga reflected on her experiences and came to disheartening conclusions: "This morning, while reviewing old files, I realized that even more than 30 years after gaining independence, the situation in Latvia regarding the preservation of the Latvian language is tragically lamentable."
"Yes, the Russification of Latvia today is no longer as direct and aggressive. It has become more cunning — creeping into the consciousness and daily life of Latvians through every available crack," Dace Lindberga sounds the alarm.
She shares her observations: "Shops in large cities are like Russian villages, the transition of school education to the Latvian language shows rather the opposite process – there is a Russification of Latvians, not a Latvianization of Russians. I am generally ashamed to talk about the media."
To these problems, the member of the nationalist party added the policy of mass immigration and the youth's shift to the English language.
"Why such cowardice in derussification? Why such disrespect for oneself and for one's Latvian language? Why?" the concerned nationalist asks and finds no answers.
By the way, the "Rising Sun" plans to participate in the upcoming elections to the Saeima of Latvia. The National Alliance should gather its strength.
