One of the vice-mayors of Riga is preparing a proposal for the Riga City Council: not to pay remuneration to Deputy Alexey Roslikov, considering that the deputy is currently outside Latvia and may not be fulfilling his direct duties.
This was reported to the bb.lv portal by the assistant to the vice-mayor, Inese Ozolina.
The logic behind withholding the deputy's salary is as follows: the remuneration of a deputy is directly linked to the actual performance of duties, including participation in council and committee meetings, work in commissions and working groups, as well as fulfilling other responsibilities related to the mandate.
"Given the publicly available information at this time, Alexey Roslikov is in Belarus and plans to stay there, while he is wanted in Latvia, as a preventive measure has been chosen against him — detention. This means that he is deliberately evading the judicial process and is not in Latvia.
In this situation, it is absolutely unacceptable that a person who not only fails to fulfill the duties of a deputy but is actually evading legal responsibility continues to receive remuneration at the expense of the residents of Riga.
If Roslikov does not plan to return to Latvia and is unable to perform his duties, the residents of Riga should not support him through deputy remuneration, especially considering that he is currently in a country that supports the aggressor," stated the deputy mayor of Riga.
It should be noted that the vice-mayor hastened to seize Roslikov's funds. To make a decision on the annulment of the deputy's mandate (and, accordingly, the cancellation of his salary), it is necessary to establish, according to the first part of Article 4 of the Law on the Status of Local Government Deputies, that the deputy has not participated in more than half of the regular council meetings without a valid reason for three months.
