“No honest competitions exist...”

The ex-prime minister commented on the personnel policy in public administration.

Former Prime Minister Guntars Krasts stated in an interview with another ex-politician Andrei Panteleev for the portal jauns.lv that "no honest competitions" exist for positions in public administration. "More precisely, more or less honest competitions take place for positions up to the middle level, that is, up to the head of department. After all, someone has to work! We need specialists who can write something competently. A department director is not capable of writing anything substantial," noted the ex-prime minister and reminded that the salaries of top officials in Latvia - department directors and state secretaries - in some cases already exceed the salary levels of officials of the same rank in Germany.
