Deputies Demand Urgent Convening of the National Security Council. What Happened?

"A whole corrupt system has emerged under the wing of 'New Unity,'" the parliamentarians believe.

As reported, law enforcement agencies conducted large-scale procedural actions on suspicion of corruption in the organization of procurement in the information technology system. The procurements were organized by structural units of the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development.

The European Prosecutor's Office stated that the implementation of certain projects could lead to potential risks to national security, as they may affect elections and democratic procedures.

Considering that the elections to the Saeima will take place in just six months, society must have complete confidence that their conduct will not be discredited or hindered in any way. This is a fundamental issue of democracy and state security, which is why the UNITED LIST (AS) calls on the President of Latvia and the National Security Council he heads to immediately assess the possible risks and threats that may arise from these potentially illegal actions. Co-chairman of the AS, Edward Smiltenš, stated: "It turns out that under the political wing of 'New Unity' a corrupt system has emerged that steals not only the public's money but also our security and democracy. Given the significant problems observed in the previous elections and the same individuals involved, there is confidence in a well-rooted and politically protected scheme."
