US President Donald Trump may not be liked, but the US strikes on Iran can be viewed positively, said foreign policy expert Martins Hirschs to the LETA agency.
He emphasized that Iran is weaker than ever right now. In recent months, it has only weakened as Israel has destroyed many of Iran's allies in other countries.
Hirschs also reminded about the protests that took place at the end of last year and the beginning of this year in Iran, which the ruling regime brutally suppressed, killing thousands of the country's residents.
"Trump may not be liked, but if Trump strikes Iran, it should be viewed positively. Iran has a terrible, brutal, and cruel regime," said Hirschs.
At the same time, the expert acknowledged that it is still unclear what exactly the US aims to achieve. In his opinion, it is already somewhat late for a regime change, as the current regime has eliminated a number of potential new leaders of Iran during the protests.
He also noted that even those who want change in Iran are relatively not pleased that the US is attacking the country, as the US has been demonized by the Iranian regime for decades.
In response to the US and Israeli strikes, Iran today targeted US military facilities in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait. However, Hirschs emphasized that Iran's military power is significantly weakened as well.
"Yes, there is conflict in the Middle East, yes, there are casualties. Iran is launching missiles, but it cannot cause massive damage. They are threatening, scary, but modern weapons can intercept most of them," commented Hirschs.
As reported, on Saturday, Israel and the US struck Iran, and as a result of the missile attacks, both the capital Tehran and other cities were affected.
Iran retaliated with strikes on Israel as well as on US military facilities in Bahrain and other countries in the Persian Gulf.
