"There is no such question on the political agenda!" - just recently assured experts from the International Monetary Fund, Finance Minister Arvils Ašeradens. He clearly rushed to conclusions! Today, deputies from the opposition faction of the Saeima 'Latvia First' submitted amendments to the Law on Pension Funds to the parliament, which provide for... the option to choose savings at the 2nd pension level.

Thus, the proposed amendments allow either to do nothing with the savings, leaving them until retirement, or to choose partially, or to withdraw all savings at the 2nd pension level, and in the case of complete or partial withdrawal of funds, there is an option to resume savings from scratch, that is, to make contributions to this pension level again.

At the same time, the bill requires the Cabinet of Ministers to establish a procedure for informing residents about the consequences of partial or full withdrawal of funds.

Apparently, the Saeima will decide whether to refer the bill to the parliamentary committee at the next plenary session on March 5.
