Russia is Stalling on Peace Negotiations - Braže

Russia is stalling on peace negotiations, said Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže on the Latvian television program "Morning Panorama."

She noted that Russia has not changed its strategic goals in any way. "Therefore, the format of negotiations from the Russian side is a stalling tactic. These are not good faith negotiations."

At the same time, technical negotiations involving intelligence leaders are related to monitoring and similar issues if a ceasefire is eventually reached, the minister added.

"But the main thing - the political will to end the war - is not visible," she emphasized.

Braže stated that the 20th EU sanctions package against Russia was initially very strong, but it is evident that several countries are trying to weaken it. Work to reach an agreement continues.

Overall, in the minister's assessment, there is both political and practical support for Ukraine in European and NATO countries, but it is important to achieve this support on a global level, reflecting what is actually happening in Ukraine. For example, Russian disinformation is very strong in African countries, the minister noted.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that the results of the peace negotiations in Geneva on Tuesday were insufficient but called for continuing negotiations in February.
