Members will also determine the deadlines for reviewing the law returned by the president.
Such a thing hasn’t happened in the Saeima for a long time: in one day, that is tomorrow, five commissions will hold closed meetings away from outsiders! At the same time, only one of these five commissions has revealed at least the topic of discussion. The Defense and Internal Affairs Commission will discuss the work of the recently established crisis management center.
Closed meetings with a secret agenda will be held by the Commission on Public Audits and Expenditures, the Commission on Foreign Affairs, and the Commission on Citizenship, Migration and Social Cohesion. It should be noted that another commission - on national security - always conducts its meetings in closed mode, as almost all issues considered by this commission constitute state secrets.
In an open mode, of course, the Commission on Economic Affairs will discuss the draft law on the implementation of the Rail Baltica project, while the Budget Commission will hold a discussion regarding, to put it mildly, the controversial initiative of the Ministry of Finance to bring non-bank financial institutions under the supervision of the Bank of Latvia.
Members of the Education Commission will decide on the deadlines for correcting the amendments on remote education for schoolchildren returned by the president.
