The issue of abolishing administrative commissions will be considered in Riga, as decided today by the Riga City Council's Committee on Security, Order, and Corruption Prevention.

The committee heard a report from the State Audit Office on the work of the commissions. The audit revealed that the process of decision-making on administrative cases by collegiate commissions takes longer and incurs significant costs across Latvia.

On average, the consideration of administrative violations by collegiate commissions takes 61 days, while individual decision-making takes 48 days, which is 13 days faster. The average cost of a decision made by a collegiate commission is 98 euros, whereas for an individual decision it is 13 euros, which is 7.5 times cheaper.

The head of the committee, Girts Lapiņš, noted that the commissions are a remnant of the Soviet era, when they were considered institutions for educational work. At the committee meeting, his proposal to instruct the legal department of the central administration of the municipality to assess the feasibility of abolishing the administrative commission of the Riga municipality was supported.

Furthermore, Lapiņš urged politicians to encourage their party colleagues to submit the necessary amendments to the Saeima that would allow municipalities to abolish such commissions. According to the State Audit Office, this requires amending 29 sectoral laws.
