Latvian TV decided to find out whether the ministries plan to reduce the number of employees this year.
The reduction of administrative expenses has been declared by the government as one of the priorities due to the need to increase allocations for defense. So how many clerks from the ministry are planned to be cut this year? As Latvian TV has found out, only 6 ministries have decided on actual staff reductions. The Ministry of Finance laid off the most employees - 455! The lion's share of those laid off were employees of the State Revenue Service. The Ministry of Agriculture dismissed 88 people, while the Ministry of Economics let go of 40.
As a result, all three ministries saved more than 13 million euros.
Employees were also reduced in the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Regional Development, and the Ministry of Justice.
