Riga, December 11, LETA. The Saeima on Thursday rejected the amendments to the State Audit Law prepared by opposition deputies, which called for a revision of aid to Ukraine.
The aim of the amendments is to ensure transparency in the state aid provided to Ukraine since 2022.
The amendments stipulate that the State Audit Office will prepare a revision report on the use of political, military, financial, and humanitarian aid by March 31, 2026. The results of the audit must be presented to the Saeima by April 15, 2026.
The annotation to the bill notes that since the beginning of the war, Latvia has provided Ukraine with aid totaling 966 million euros, including military assistance, aid to the civilian population in Latvia, humanitarian assistance, and support for the Ukrainian government, as well as support for reforms and recovery.
According to the party, the need for the amendments has increased due to the public outcry caused by information about the corruption scandal in Ukraine.
