Prime Minister Evika Silina, at the invitation of Archbishop of Riga Zbignevs Stankevics, is visiting the Vatican for a two-day working visit as part of the Latvian national pilgrimage, during which she will meet with the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church, the State Chancellery reported to LETA.

During the visit, Silina will have a private audience with Pope Leo XIV, a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and a joint audience with the Latvian delegation and pilgrims.

According to the State Chancellery, the visit and national pilgrimage take place in the context of the centenary of diplomatic relations between Latvia and the Holy See and at a time when the Roman Catholic Church worldwide is celebrating the anniversary year "Pilgrims of Hope." This year also marks 100 years since the first pilgrimage of bishops from Latvia as an independent state.

The purpose of the visit is to continue active dialogue with the Holy See, strengthen bilateral relations, and confirm Latvia's readiness to jointly support Ukraine, advocate for peace, security, and respect for international law.
