Prime Minister Evika Silina will visit the Vatican from Sunday, November 23, to Monday, November 24, to participate in the Latvian National Pilgrimage and meet with the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church, the State Chancellery reported.
During the visit, a private audience with Pope Leo XIV is scheduled for Silina, a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, as well as participation in a general audience together with the Latvian delegation and pilgrims.
The State Chancellery reports that this visit and the National Pilgrimage take place in the context of the centenary of diplomatic relations between Latvia and the Holy See, as well as during a period when the Roman Catholic Church worldwide is celebrating the anniversary year "Pilgrims of Hope."
According to the LR State Chancellery, the Holy See highly values the traditions of ecumenism and interfaith solidarity in Latvia.
According to the official version, the purpose of Silina's visit to the Vatican is to continue maintaining an active dialogue with the Holy See, strengthen bilateral relations, confirm Latvia's commitment to jointly support Ukraine, and advocate for peace, security, and adherence to international law.
