Former politician on the peculiarities of being a deputy in Latvia.
Former Saeima deputy Ilmars Latkovskis noted in an interview with TV-24 that often deputies are forced to say not what they actually think, but in accordance with their party's position or to maintain coalition discipline. This generates a certain internal resentment among deputies, and it affects their mental health. But they have to behave this way, because if they stop being deputies, it will not be so easy for them to find a job. There is a lot of competition for good positions in private business. "And most deputies would not receive such rewards in private business as they do in the Saeima," the former politician remarked, and it is hard to disagree with him.
