The Minister of Economics is dissatisfied... with the rise in food prices.
As is known, this month marks six months since the signing of the memorandum between the Ministry of Economics and representatives of retail chains to reduce food prices. Unfortunately, experts were right - the memorandum could not significantly impact the situation, inflation continued to rise and reached 4.3%, while food prices increased even more - by 5.8%! "Of course, I am not satisfied with the result! Although it should be noted that in the low-price segment, there was no increase in costs - on the contrary, prices in this segment have decreased by 0.8% since May. But we must continue to use control tools - we know that recently the Competition Council fined a retail chain 2 million. We must continue to exert pressure on retailers," the Minister of Economics stated this evening on Latvian TV.
