On Wednesday, November 12, a meeting of the National Security Council was held at the Riga Castle under the chairmanship of the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, as reported by bb.lv from the press service of the President of the Republic of Latvia.

It should be noted that during the municipal elections on June 7, 2025, technical problems with the automatic counting of ballots arose at polling stations in Latvia, leading to a switch to manual counting. As a result, some parties contested the election results.

Today, reports were heard from the chairperson of the Central Election Commission, the director of the State Agency for Digital Development, and the chairman of the board of the State Joint Stock Company "Latvian National Radio and Television Center" regarding the arrangements for ensuring the Saeima elections in 2026.

Given the mistakes made during this year's municipal elections, as well as the recommendations expressed at the National Security Council meeting on June 11, today's discussion focused on solutions to reduce potential risks, timely testing of electoral systems, internal communication and cooperation between the involved institutions, as well as preventing external interference in the electoral process.

Responsible institutions promised to continue working to avoid failures in the upcoming elections.

The meeting also included reports from state security services on the current situation in the country. The press release does not provide information on the current situation.
